First Lisburn Holiday Bible Club 2011

The theme for this year's Holiday Bible Club at First Lisburn was Mission Miracle Maker!

We had 5 days of fun as King Snorg of the planet Snonge sent us on a mission to investigate and search for the truth about Jesus: The Miracle Maker. With the help of the Millenium Parrot spaceship we learnt of His miracles and had a spacetastic time!

Escape is our teenage evening hangout. The theme this year was “The Truth is Out There”, and explored what truth really is. We used scenes from “The Matrix” to open up what truths God wants us to know!

The speaker was Gareth Bell who works for Precepts Ministry, a bible-based ministry reaching into schools and churches. We also had messy games, lively music, and some strange dramas!

REVIEW by Laura McIntyre

This year in Holiday Bible Club, I was a member of the J-Crew. This meant I was helping out with arts and crafts, refreshments, and many other different things! The theme this year was Space.

Every day we had dramas by the Captain and Lieutenant of the spaceship, and Swotty hosted his own talk show, which went by the same name. On the talk show, we had Simon Peter the disciple; Tabitha, a woman who was in pain for 12 years and was instantly healed when she touched Jesus’ cloak; and Mary Magdalene, who found the empty tomb after Jesus’ death. The kids loved Swotty and his interviews.

We also had songs, games, and arts and crafts. In arts and crafts, the kids made alien sock puppets, drew space pictures, and made a spaceship out of food! On the last day, the P1s, P2s and P3s made space suits and the P4s, P5s, P6s and P7s made rockets out of plastic bottles and shot them out in the church car park.

Thursday was our sports day, and while we walked up to Wallace Park for games and the barbeque, we saw Simon Peter, Tabitha, the Lieutenant, and Swotty in the windows of shops like Woodsides, The Cycle Zone, Oasis Travel and Music Matters! The kids had to spot them and be able to say who they were. Overall it was a really fun week and the kids all loved it :)

I also went to Escape, which I really liked. Every night, there was tuck shop, talks from Gareth Bell, which were all centred around the theme “The Truth is Out There”, and the option of games or free time afterwards. We also had a reptile man who had a giant African millipede, a long-eared owl, a lion rabbit, a hedgehog, a corn snake and a tree frog. We also had a UV party on the last night, with Keith Lunn as the DJ. I had loads of fun there with my friends and will definitely go again next year – except I’ll bring more of my friends!
